What is Arts Psychotherapy?
In Greek mythology, Psyche refers to the Greek nymph who was the personification of the human soul. Psyche is then defined as, “the mind…considered as an organic system reaching all parts of the body”.
Therapy is derived from the Greek verb ‘therapeuein’, which means to attend, guide, or serve.
So, we then are able to define Psychotherapy as the act of attending, guiding and serving the entire self.
When we pair Psychotherapy with creative modalities, it provides us the tools and avenues to go beyond what words can convey and draw upon our unconscious mind. The gift of Art Therapy is the safety it provides for one to face the confronting parts of therapy, and the ability it has to support the integrity of our mind/body experience.
